1. Press the TRUNK TYPE function key

2. Press the up or down arrow key until OPTIONAL TYPES appears and PCM appears over softkey 2

3. Press softkey 2 to Select PCM

4. Press softkey 2 again to select the type of span termination

5. Press softkey 3 to select MON 1 & 2

6. As shown in the figure below, connect a cord between the 930 PCM1 IN jack and the DSX MON jack for the output from the local switch

* * * A 100 Ohm Termination Plug must be simultaneously inserted in the corresponding DSX OUT jack when a cord is plugged into a DSX IN jack. (For example, when plugging a cord into the Side A DSX IN jack, simultaneously plug a 100 ohm termination into the Side B OUT jack.)

7. Connect a cord between the 930 PCM 2 IN jack and the DSX MON jack for the output from the facility coming into the switch

8. Watch the 930 screen and PCM status LEDs to make sure the system and connections are stable

9. Connect a cord into the 930 PCM l OUT jack and prepare to plug it into the facility DSX IN jack below the MON jack where the 930 PCM 2 IN is connected

10. Take a 100 Ohm termination plug and prepare to plug it into the DSX OUT jack from the switch which is below the MON jack where the 930 PCM l IN is connected.

11. Simultaneously plug in the cord from step 9 and the termination from step 10 into their respective jacks and watch the 930 screen and PCM status LEDs for a long term (1 to 2 seconds) error report. You may get a short flash of FRAME LOSS

CAUTION: If the 930A reports a NO PCM error, immediately unplug the corresponding cord and termination and check for a problem with the cord, DSX wiring, LBO settings or other signal parameters.

12. Connect a cord into the 930 PCM 2 OUT jack and prepare to plug it into the switch DSX IN jack below the MON jack where the 930 PCM l IN is connected

13. Take a l00 Ohm termination plug and prepare to plug it into the DSX OUT jack from the facility which is below the MON jack where the 930 PCM 2 IN is connected

14. Simultaneously plug in the cord from step 12 and the termination from step 13 into their respective jacks and watch the 930 screen and PCM status LEDs as before

CAUTION: If the 930A reports a NO PCM error, immediately unplug the corresponding cord and termination and check for a problem with the cord, DSX wiring, LBO settings or other signal parameters.

15. Select the channel to be tested

16. Check for an OFF-HOOK condition in either direction to make sure it is not busy

17. Press soft key 2 under MON 1 & 2

18. Press soft key 4 under D & I

19. Access the circuit

A. To test toward the switch, press soft key 1 until RECV-1 appears

B. To test toward the facility, press soft key 1 until RECV-2 appears

Note: Changing channels in the D & I mode switches the 930A back to MON 1 & 2. Repeat steps 16 through 18 to drop out the new channel.
